Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Minister of Foreign and Expatriate Affairs Ayman Safadi and PLO Secretary General Saeb Erekat highlighted the importance of the two-state solution as the only way to end the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, and achieve peace in the region.
During a meeting at the Ministry of Foreign and Expatriate Affairs on Wednesday, Safadi and Eerkat said that failure to acheive progress in the peace process that ends Israeli occupation, and leads to the establishment of an independent Palestinian state, will feed terrorism in the region and give terrorists a pretext to justify their horrible terrorist acts.
They also affirmed the importance of launching serious and effective negotiations between the Palestinians and Israelis that meet the aspirations of the Palestinians in establishing their independent state with East Jerusalem as its capital.
Both sides warned of unilateral actions that threaten the status quo in East Jerusalem and change the Arab identity of the city.
Erekat praised efforts led by His Majesty King Abdullah II to safeguard Islamic and Christian holy sites in East Jerusalem in line with the Hashemite custodianship of the holy places.
Both Safadi and Erekat stressed the need to continue consultations and coordination between Jordan and the Palestinian National Authority led by His Majesty the King and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, especially before the upcoming Amman summit.
