Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - His Majesty King Abdullah II and British Prime Minister Theresa May, on Wednesday, held talks that focused on the latest regional and international developments, and prospects for cementing relations between the two countries at various levels.
The talks, which took place in the British government's headquarters in London in the presence of senior officials from both countries, dealt with boosting bilateral cooperation in the political, economic and military fields.
King Abdullah said: "I am happy to be here in London, and as you mentioned (Prime Minister Theresa May), not only because of our strong relationship, but also because of the development of relations see every year in the political, military and security fields."
His Majesty the King added: "Our stances are one, and we are aware of the challenges in our region and the world, so I look forward to exchanging ideas and how we can make our part of the world better."
British Prime Minister Theresa May welcomed His Majesty the King, and said: "I am very pleased to welcome you here in the government’s headquarters."
She added: "We had the opportunity to meet in several occasions, but this is the first time that we meet here to discuss bilateral relations, and there are many topics that we will discuss, particularly the long history of joint work and cooperation between the UK and Jordan."
Prime Minister May praised the deep and historical relations between Jordan and Britain in many areas. She said: "We share a common interest to work together on security issues and economic development."
During the talks, His Majesty the King and the British Prime Minister stressed the need for continued consultation and coordination on various issues of common concern, especially with regard to the crises in the region, stressing the importance of Britain's role in this regard.
The talks also focused on the regional and international efforts to combat terrorism, within a holistic strategy, since it poses a threat to international peace and security.
The Talks also dealt with the peace process, where His Majesty stressed the need to intensify efforts to revive the peace process to re-launch serious and effective negotiations between the Palestinians and Israelis based on the two-state solution as the only solution to end the conflict.
His Majesty stressed that any proposals that aren't based on the two-state solution and international legitimacy resolutions, would have serious repercussions on the security and stability of the region.
They also reviewed the latest developments in Syria. In this context, the King stressed the need to build on international efforts to consolidate the ceasefire, and prepare for a political solution within the course of the current negotiations in Geneva.
The talks underlined the need to support efforts to establish security and stability in Iraq, Yemen and Libya .
Discussing the major burdens being borne by Jordan as a result of the Syrian refugee crisis and pressures it places on the national economy, His Majesty the King emphasized the importance of following up on the implementation of the outcome of the London's donors conference and their commitment toward Jordan and other host countries.
His Majesty expressed appreciation of the United Kingdom's support for Jordan to help mitigate the effects of the Syrian crisis, and enable it to provide humanitarian and relief services to the refugees.
During the talks, British Prime Minister Theresa May said her country was keen on developing cooperation and partnership with Jordan in various fields, especially in economic domains.
She expressed appreciation for Jordan's pivotal role, under the leadership of His Majesty the King, to achieve security and stability in the region.
The British Prime Minister also stressed that the UK will continue supporting Jordan to enable it to address challenges the region's crises placed on its economy and limited resources.
She said the UK will urge the international community and donors to honor their commitments to the Kingdom, to enable it to provide humanitarian services to the Syrian refugees.
