Italian archeological consortium launched in Jordan

Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - The Italian Archaeological Consortium in Jordan was launched in collaboration with Jordanian authorities to strengthen operation of Italian entities engaged in protection and the valorization of the Jordanian cultural heritage, diplomat said today.

The project will include some of the significant sites being operated by Italian missions such as Mosaics restoration of the Memorial of Moses - since 1999, "Evolution and prehistory in the Zarqa's Valley," Khirbet al-Batrawy, the Italian-Spanish Archaeological Mission in Jebel al-Mutawwaq, financed by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, 'Medieval' Petra.

Additionally, Italy assigned a grant to the conservation project of Qusayr 'Amra, or "desert castles", built in the 8th century AD. Diplomats and Jordanian officials said they hoped the consortium will lead to further cooperation between the kingdom and Italy in this field.
