Jordan forwards Syrian crisis response plan to UN

25-01-2017 04:08 PM

Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Jordan has officially sent to the United Nations a comprehensive response plan designed to address the impacts of the Syrian crisis on the Kingdom, particularly an enormous influx of refugees.

The 2017-2019 Jordan Response Platform for the Syria Crisis (JRPSC) serves as a sole national reference identifying the needed response to the impacts of the Syrian crisis and provides a mapping of interventions needed from UN bodies and donors. The announcement was made by Minister of Planning and International Cooperation, Imad Fakhoury, during his participation in an international conference in Finland on humanitarian issues related to the Syrian crisis.

The minister made it clear that it is the international community's responsibility to provide Jordan with adequate support and assistance to help it grapple with the burden of hundreds of thousands of Syrian refugees.

He said the Kingdom reached the "point of saturation" as the Syrian refugee crisis overshadowed all aspects of life and continues to place massive pressures on services, already-limited resources and structure. He emphasized that other countries should welcome Syrian refugees from Jordan.

Fakhoury called on donor nations to support Jordan's budget with grants and soft lending to finance the Kingdom's developmental needs and ease pressure on public finance. While thanking donors for the support they have extended to Jordan so far, the minister urged them to fulfill the commitments they made at a global conference held in London in 2016 to meet Jordan's needs as agreed in the Jordan Response Plan for 2016.

Led by the Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation, the Jordan Response Platform for the Syria Crisis (JRPSC) constitutes the strategic partnership mechanism for the development of a comprehensive refugee, resilience-strengthening and development response to the impact of the Syria crisis on Jordan.
