Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - The government's committee charged with pricing oil derivatives announced Saturday it is raising prices by about 7 per cent for the month of January due to a hike in global petrol prices.

It said in a statement that starting Sunday, a litre of 90 octane gasoline will be sold at JD0.62, four piasters up from the current price of JD0.58, while the new price of 95 octane gasoline will be JD0.81 per litre and diesel and kerosene will be sold at JD0.465 per litre.

As in previous months, the committee, which sets petrol prices on monthly basis according to global market fluctuations, had kept the price of a cooking gas cylinder, commonly used by households and restaurants, at JD7.

The statement said that it relied on the international price indicators, which showed that benchmark Brent oil prices had jumped eight dollars in December to $53.01 per barrel, or 18.2 percent from the previous month.

"This global rise in crude prices had prompted an increase in oil derivatives in the same period by an average of 12%, as diesel jumped 11.0%, 95 octane gasoline was up about 11.8 percent and 90 octane gasoline recorded a 12.5% increase from the global levels in November", it pointed out.
