Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - His Majesty King Abdullah II, the supreme commander of the armed forces, Tuesday called on the General Directorate of the Gendarmerie Forces and discussed with its director general Maj. Gen. Hussein Al Hawatmeh security and organisational matters related to the security agency.
The King checked on the preparedness of the security body's various units and was updated on the security operation by Gendarmerie and Public Security forces against a terrorist group of outlaws that carried out the cowardly attack in the city of Karak.
King Abdullah expressed his condolences over the martyrdom of Gendarmerie and public security personnel, who were killed in the line of duty along with innocent civilians during the operation that ended early Monday. He commended the Gendarmerie personnel for their efficiency and professionalism that enables them to deal with the various security challenges and situations.
The supreme commander expressed his pride in the security agencies for their courage and valor in defending the country, and praised security men, who had put their lives in harm's way to rescue hostages.
The terrorist attack will not affect the Kingdom's security, but will strengthen it, he said, adding that the criminals will not be able to undermine the country's stability.
The King said the world suffers daily from terrorism and is waging a war against it, adding: "What happened in the Kingdom happens in other countries in the west and east." The Gendarmerie chief briefed the supreme commander on his department's security strategy and administrative measures taken to upgrade the operational performance of its personnel.
He also reviewed the key executive plans of the security body and the services it provides to both citizens and people residing in the country, as well as its efforts to promote the rule of law according to best practices that ensure transparency and respect of human rights.
