Cabinet briefed on challenges of public transportation sector

Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - The cabinet, on Sunday, was briefed by Minister of Transport, Hussein Al Souob, on challenges facing the public transportation sector in the Kingdom and solutions to this problem.
During a cabinet meeting, Prime Minister Hani Mulki, stressed the need to alleviate the citizens' daily suffering caused by traffic and the lack of a sophisticated and reliable public transport sector, which is one of the biggest challenges facing the national economy.
The Prime Minister emphasized the need to prioritize the construction of a railway project (Ma'an-Aqaba) and a land port project in Ma'an (Railway between the Dead Sea, Ghor Al Safi, Aqaba) in order to transport passengers and goods.
Transport Minister voiced his ministry's determination to find advanced and modern means of transport that provide citizens with guaranteed and fixed frequencies means of transportation in parallel with preserving the rights of operators in the sector.
The cabinet decided to form a ministerial committee to develop practical plan and set up priorities in the public transport sector.
The committee will be headed by Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs and Minister of State for Investment, with the membership of the ministers of planning, transport, finance, public works and housing, municipalities, communications and information technology, public sector development and water and irrigation.
The committee shall, within one month, submit practical and well-thought-out proposals for the development of the public transport sector and solving the problem of transportation.
