Finance minister delivers 2017 budget speech before Lower House

Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Finance Minister, Omar Malhas, delivered his speech on state budget bill for 2017 on Wednesday before the Lower House in which he pointed to public spending that totaled JD8946 million against JD8119 million in revenues, including foreign aid.



The minister told the session that the deficit for 2017 budget was estimated at JD827 million after grants, representing 2.8 per cent of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP), compared with 4 per cent in 2016.



He said the 2017 state budget and government units draft laws contain ventures that the government intends to carry out in accordance with national priorities consistent with the "Jordan 2025", the 10-year blueprint for economic and social development.



He added that the government has adopted a new scheme for financial reform in cooperation with the International Monetary Fund which includes a set of policies and procedures that would help the national economy to overcome challenges facing it.
