Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - The Jordan National Union political party Saturday urged educators and other stakeholders to put forward plans and "constructive" programmes to crackdown on violence on university campuses, which had seen an uptick recently.
It warned in a statement that on-campus violence among students, which had become a recurrent phenomenon, and their aggressive behaviours would involve serious corporal and verbal assaults and vandalism of property inside and outside campuses.
The party's secretary general, Zeid Abu-Zeid, cited social, academic, administrative and economic reasons as well as lack of awareness for rising on-campus violence, "which prompt them to resort to sharp objects and the use of rude language in a brawl".
He said students must be made aware of the "grave" consequences of violence and stressed engaging them in "positive and useful" activities and the role of security personnel on campuses.
