Jordanian community in Canada celebrates winning gold by Olympic champion Abu Ghaush

Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Jordanian community in Canada celebrated champion Ahmed Abu Ghaush, who won the gold medal in Taekwondo at the 2016 Olympic Games held in Rio Brazil.

The Jordanian- Canadian Society (JCS) organized a ceremony Sunday at Randall Park in Mississauga attended by large numbers of the community in Toronto, including the Jordanian coach Samer Kamal, who had won the first Jordanian bronze medal in the same game at the Olympics in 1988.

The celebration began with the Jordanian and Canadian national anthems, followed by a speech of the JCS president Ziad Malawi Freihat .

In his speech, Freihat referred to the congratulatory call Abu Ghaush received from His Majesty King Abdullah II, during which he voiced pride with the athlete distinguished victory that raised the name and flag of Jordan high at the Olympic Games.

Freihat hailed Abu Ghaush sport achievement, especially as he was the youngest competitor in the taekwondo division, and called the young taekwondo players to follow the talented young athlete to reach the Olympics .

Abu Ghaush, a 20-year-old business management student at the University of Jordan, won the gold medal in the taekwondo -68kg event on Friday, the Kingdom’s first ever Olympic medal.

The champion has previously won gold medals at the Taekwondo World Championship 2012 in Egypt, Asia’s Championship 2012 in Vietnam and at the Olympic Qualifier in the Philippines.
