Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Deputy Prime Minister for Services Affairs and Minister of Education, Mohammad Thunaibat, on Monday, discussed with Director General of the Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences (KFAS) Adnan Shihab-Eldin, and an accompanying delegation scopes of support the KFAS will provide to the ministry regarding Syrian students in Jordan.
Shihab-Eldin announced that the KFAS allocated $20 million to support Jordan's education sector in shouldering the burden of hosting Syrian refugees. The aid comes within a commitment made by Kuwait to support Jordan during the London donor conference, which was held last February.
The minister commended Kuwait's support to Arab humanitarian efforts, saying: "It's our duty to support Syrians students in our schools." He also expressed appreciation for KFAS's initiative.
Thunaibat said his ministry hopes to be able to open more schools in Jordan, at the beginning of next September, for Syrians students, thanks to KFAS's support.
He noted that Syrian students studying at public schools stand at about 145,000, who are equally treated as Jordanian students in terms of access to appropriate education opportunities.
