Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Weather forecasters indicate that the country will experience the effect of a heat wave over the next few days, prompting key agencies to issue warnings to susceptible groups.

Swathes of Jordan are forecast to bake in temperatures clear to 36 degrees Celsius, while they could nudge 45 degrees in the southern region of the Kingdom and the city of Aqaba.

With the sweltering weather expected to last few days, the ministry of health is urging people to look out for elderly relatives and friends who may be vulnerable to the scorching temperatures and to take extra care of young children, babies and those with heath problems.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the ministry advised laborers and farmers and those who work outdoors to keep safe from the sun, seek shade to cool down and keep hydrated with plenty of cool fluids.

Due to the blistering temperatures, the ministry also warned of heat exhaustion or heatstroke which, it said, could occur when people are doing too much strenuous physical exercise.

It further explained the effects of heat stroke that include nausea and vomiting, flushed skin, rapid breathing, racing heart rate and headache.

If such symptoms are spotted, the ministry urged residents to notify emergency services and give first aid to persons who suffer the illness.

The statement said it's important to get those who feel the symptoms to lie down in a cool place, cool their skin, fan their skin while it's moist and get them to drink fluids.
