Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Director of Palestinian Affairs Department, Mahmoud Aqrabawi, said that the Palestinian cause is top of Jordan's priorities and had been a daily concern the Kingdom had to live since the start of the plight of the Palestinians' eviction from their lands. In an address at the 96th session of the Conference of Supervisors of Palestinian Affairs in Arab States Hosting Refugees in Cairo, Aqrabawi said Jordan will remain a stalwart supporter of the Palestinian "brethren in their predicament that has dragged on for decades, until their legitimate national aspirations are achieved and their rights are fully met".
He said the Kingdom backs the setting up of an independent Palestinian state on the 4th of June,1967, borders with East Jerusalem as its capital, and the return of Palestinian refugees to their homes according to UN Resolution 194.
The official also pointed to the deficit-stricken budget of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) in recent years, emphasizing the importance of avoiding such "dangerous" shortfall to enable the agency to continue its role towards Palestinian refugees.
In addition to UNRWA's financial crisis and its impact on services it offers to refugees, the five-day conference of representatives from Jordan, Egypt, Lebanon, Palestine and the Arab League will look into Palestinian refugees' conditions in Arab host countries and Israeli violations against the Palestinian lands.
