FM meets ambassadors of permanent members of UNSC, representatives UN bodies

Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and Expatriates Affairs, Nasser Judeh, told a meeting with the ambassadors of permanent members of the United Nations Security Council UNSC, the European Union and representatives of a number of UN bodies, that Jordan has always warned of the rising number of Syrians on the borders with Syria, which reached 102,000 people and the threats this issue poses, especially as most of those people came from northern and northeastern Syria where the terrorist Daesh group operates.

The meeting, which was held against the backof a cowardly terrorist attack that claimed the lives of 6 Jordanian security personnel and injured 14 others, was also attended by representatives of the High Commissioner for Refugees and the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs in addition to Minister of Interior, Salamah Hammad, and State Minister for Media Affairs and Communications, Muhammad Momani.

Judeh said today's attack was a conclusive proof that there are terrorist elements among the Syrians who gathered across the border; a thing Jordan has always warned of. Therefore, the minister added, Jordan has decided to close that area of borders and declare it a closed military zone inaccessible to individuals and vehicles.

The minister stressed that an alternative mechanism to deliver humanitarian assistance to those across border should be found in cooperation with concerned international organizations. Interior Minister Salamah Hammad said Jordan's security is a high priority and that the Kingdom maintains basic security backup so national security won't be compromised. He indicated that some terrorists of Daesh and smugglers are present in the area where the attack took place and they pose a threat not only to Jordanians but to international organizations which have a presence there.

State Minister for Media Affairs and Communications, Muhammad Momani, said all Jordanians stand united against such cowardly attacks.

The ambassadors and UN representatives who attended the meeting voiced their condemnation of the attack and expressed solidarity with Jordan against terrorism which threats the whole world.
