Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Jordan’s Administrative Court in Aqaba has overruled a decision by former governor Fawaz Irshaidat to close the Islamic Action Front branch in the region. The movement is the political wing of the Muslim Brotherhood in Jordan, and the largest opposition party in the kingdom.
Acting on behalf of the IAF, lawyer Abdul Qadir Al-Khatib explained that the court’s decision followed a lawsuit filed by the party in February. It demanded that the branch should be reopened to enable its members to carry out their duties under the Constitution. Al-Khatib pointed out that the Islamic Action Front has been active, legally, since 1992, and described the governor’s decision as an “unjustified attack” against the party’s headquarters.
At a press conference held on Saturday in Amman, the IAF announced that it will suspend its work on Monday in protest at the government’s harassment of the party’s members and their activities.
