Police investigating gold heist of JD400,000

Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Police are investigating the robbery early today of a jewelry shop in Hittine near Russeifah, East of Amman, in which JD400,000 (about $563,000) worth of gold and jewels was stolen, according to a security source.

The official source told Petra that the robbers had blasted a hole in a wall of the store and fled with the jewels.

Radi al Hiwari, board member of the jewelry shop owners association in Zarqa, said the amount of 14 kg of gold was stolen from the store, where surveillance cameras and alarm system had been disconnected for refurbishment work. The robbers, he added, had cut through the safe, using Oxygen lance.

The Russeifah police chief was at the site and police immediately opened an investigation to identify the robbers and bring them to justice, added the source.
