King, UN Chief, World Bank President discuss Syrian refugee crisis

Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - His Majesty King Abdullah II, on Sunday, discussed with UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and World Bank Group President Jim Yong Kim, ways to boost Jordan's capabilities to face the increasing burdens being borne by the Kingdom due to the Syrian refugees crisis.
During the meeting, which was attended by Her Majesty Queen Rania Al Abdullah, both sides tackled the role of these two international institutions in supporting countries, which suffer from regional and international crises. King Abdullah said the international community and its humanitarian and financial institutions should intensify their efforts to alleviate the impacts of hosting about 1.3 million Syrian refugees on various national sectors, especially economic and services sectors.
The meeting addressed the possibility of building on the London Donors Conference recommendations, which was held last month, in which many parties' pledged to support the affected countries from the Syrian refugees crisis, at the forefront is the Kingdom.
On current regional developments, the meeting discussed regional and international efforts to counter terrorism and extremism.
As for the peace in the region, the meeting emphasized the need to intensify efforts to end the impasse in the peace process between the Palestinians and Israelis, in order to achieve progress based on the two-state solution and international legitimacy resolutions.
The talks dealt with the World Bank's support to Jordan in implementing its economic programs and national development plans. King Abdullah highlighted, in this context, Jordan's reform drive, especially in the economic field.
The UN chief, in turn, voiced the United Nations' appreciation to Jordan's policy and its moderate approach in dealing with various challenges in the Middle East and the world, and support to the Kingdom's pivotal role in regional and international issues.
World Bank Group President Jim Yong Kim said the bank will continue providing technical and developmental support to Jordan, in the framework of the partnership between the two parties, and assisting the Kingdom in facing various economic challenges.
