Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, Sunday, said, "we work with Jordan together to support its Response Platform to the Syria Crisis", and stressed the need to seize the opportunity at hand to bring peace to the war-torn country.
The UN chief, who is visiting along with president of the World Bank Group Jim Yong Kim as part of a tour in the region, met here today with Prime Minister Abdullah Ensour, and praised Jordan's "positive" policy towards regional developments.
He said he appreciated the massive burden Jordan shoulders as a result of hosting Syrian refugees.
Jordan, a small country, has become a hub for diplomacy and peace initiatives, thanks to its leadership, Ban noted.
He also said that it is important to find a just and lasting solution to the Palestinian issue, noting the Kingdom's role as custodian of holy shrines in Jerusalem.
Ensour reviewed challenges facing Jordan arising from the refugee problem in light of the shortage in aid provided by the international community.
The Syrian refugee crisis is not just a crisis of refuge, but a challenge with social and security implications as it poses tremendous strains on the Kingdom's national structure, said the premier.
The head of the World Bank Group also spoke about cooperation between Jordan and the group, and hailed the Kingdom's policy towards various regional and international issues.
