Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - His Majesty King Abdullah II, on Wednesday, expressed Jordan's keen interest to further boost ties with Cyprus.

King Abdullah spoke as he and Her Majesty Queen Rania welcomed Cypriot president Nicos Anastasiades and his wife at the al-Huseeinyah Palace.

During a one-on-one meeting with the Cypriot leader, followed by an expanded meeting, attended by senior officials from the two countries, King Abdullah lauded Nicosia's support for Jordan through its membership of the European Union.

He commended the level of cooperation as the two countries this year mark fifty-three years of diplomatic relations.

The talks also dealt with the impact of the Syria crisis on Jordan and the influx of Syrian refugees which had further strained the Kingdom's already limited resources.

President Anastasiades called for more international support for Jordan to help it host more than 1.4 million Syrian refugees, saying Amman's humanitarian efforts are worthy of praise.

The talks, attended by Prime Minister Abdullah Ensour, stressed on the need to build-on signed agreements in the investment, tourism and commercial fields.

Cooperation in the solar and renewable energy sector as well the chance for Jordan to benefit from the newly-discovered natural gas off Cyprus's shores also figured high on the meeting.

The Cypriot president was accorded full honours as he arrived at the al-Husseyniyeh Palace for the talks.

The two leaders were greeted by a guard of honour and a brass band played the national anthems of the two countries.
