Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - His Royal Highness Crown Prince Hussein bin Abdullah II, on Sunday, inaugurated the King Abdullah II Park in the Irbid Governorate, which was established upon a royal directive to become a key recreation facility serving the people of the northern region.
The park, covering a total area of about 178 dunums, will serve as a recreational, sport and cultural landmark and a breathing space to the people of Irbid and surrounding areas.
The Crown Prince unveiled a commemorative plaque and planted an olive tree as he toured the park, which was constructed at a cost of JD15 million, and housed a conservatory, bird park, sports fields, play areas for children, a 280-meter-long artificial river among other facilities.
During the opening ceremony, which was attended by the Senate President Abdul Rauf Rawabdeh and officials and lawmakers, Irbid Mayor Hussein, Bani Hani, gave a briefing on the various stages of the project, which was carried out according to a plan by the Irbid municipality to maintain the park as a key facility serving the people in the governorate.
In an interview with Petra, Bani Hani expressed his gratitude to His Majesty King Abdullah for his directive to set up such parks, and also thanked the Crown Prince for opening the facility, which is designated for the local community of Irbid and the communities around the governorate.
He said that the municipality will work within a set approach to organise cultural and sports events, host school picnics inside the park and preserve its property and cleanliness through an ad hoc task force "in a manner that serves the hopes of the citizens and creates a comfortable family atmosphere". The mayor said that the park also houses a multi-purpose restaurant, four football playgrounds and two basketball courts, green spaces, six overpasses on top of the man-made river as well as water reservoirs. He said his municipality will also use the conservatory to sell seedlings to the public.
