King attends inauguration of Suez Canal expansion

Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - His Majesty King Abdullah II, on Thursday, attended the inauguration ceremony of the Suez Canal expansion project.

The King congratulated the Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi over this key project, which is considered a milestone achievement that is added to the Egyptian president's achievements.

Along with King Abdullah, a number of heads of states and top officials from various Arab and foreign countries attended the opening of the 72-km expansion of the canal. The new addition is expected to boost the transit movement and increase the country's revenues.

Fighter jets and helicopters flew above the ceremony, while the attendees watched a documentary about the history of the canal.

On the sidelines of the ceremony, King Abdullah met with the Bahraini Monarch Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and discussed the latest developments, bilateral ties and ways to bolster them in various domains. The two leaders also discussed ways to support the fight against terrorism and extremism.
