Prince El Hassan Bin Talal started by pointing out the position of his country Jordan throughout history where most problems which occur somewhere else end up in Jordan doors to deal with them . The Kingdom has never shied away from its responsibilities and always helped to deal with the region problems he said.
On Israel HRH accused the right wing extremist government lead by Likud and its leader Benjamin Netanyahu for not being serious on implementing peace agreements accusing Israel of trying to get rid of the African immigrants and this is why some Israeli circles spoke recently of building a wall on the Israeli – Jordanian border but later denied it.
HRH did not deny that Jordan government helped and still do in having training camps to train Syrian opposition fighters and accepted that there are so many contradictions in the Arab region on how to deal with the Syrian crisis. It stems from the fact that we are dealing with a very sensitive case and a complicated matter where many parties are involved Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Iran and many others as he put it.
The main crisis facing Jordan and Lebanon today is the Humanitarian case of millions of Syrian refugees. We are left alone to deal with this problem which require an international effort. He was pleased that this important issue was raised.
On Iran HRH could not comprehend why the Arabs have made of this Muslim neighbour country an enemy. He believes Iran is a major player in the region and should be accommodated as such. Dividing the Arabs and Muslims on Ethnicity or religious differences is wrong he said and suggested a special Muslim gathering in Mecca where all representative of the Muslim world Sunni and Shia meet and sort out their differences and open new chapter in their relations.
He focused his attention on the danger of Islamic radicalism and the use of violence and terror in the name of Islam. He did not deny that these fundamentalist groups constitute a real danger on Arabs and the Arab world.
HRH said that there is a lack of dialogue in the Arab world and the doors are not open for such a thing especially among scholars and intellectuals. The Arab regimes share a big responsibility because of the lack of justice and respect for human dignity in the Arab world. One day the Arabs will not have the same wealth which is underground and then can focus hopefully on the real asset they possess and that is the Arab human being or the Arab citizen.
He welcomed the idea of opening the gates of trade and cooperation with other nations and don’t just rely on USA, Britain and France. Geographically speaking the Arabs are very close to Asia, Africa and Europe.
Finally he concluded on speaking about Andre Primakov a famous Soviet politician and scholar who passed away this week and he constituted a great loss to the Russia the Arabs and the world as a whole. If Saddam Hussein listened to Primakov and took his advice many things would have been different today HRH concluded our interview.
