Jordan calls for UN Security Council meeting on Libya

Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Jordan, as a non-permanent member of the United Nations late Monday requested a meeting to discuss the deteriorating situation in Libya.

The meeting is scheduled to be held on Wednesday over the security situation in Libya.

Members of the UN Security Council and the UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon on Monday strongly condemned the killing of 21 Egyptian Copts in Libya by the Desh terror group.

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) Director General William Lacy called on world government to act swiftly to face the growing threat to migrants as violence escalates in Libya.

Lacy told the UN radio that IOM rescued over 1,600 migrants from unseaworthy boats on the Mediterranean Sea since last Friday.

"This is a clear signal that the situation in Libya is unraveling", Lacy added.
