Departure of UK Minister for the Middle East, Tobias Ellwood after one day visit

17-12-2014 08:37 PM

Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Mr Ellwood met Prime Minister Abdullah Ensour, Minister for International Cooperation Ibrahim Seif and Foreign Minister Nasser Judeh making clear the UK’s continued commitment and support to Jordan. He visited the Zaatari refugee camp, which houses 82,000 Syrian refugees and saw first-hand how UK and international community are helping Jordan to bear the pressure of the Syria crisis.

Mr Ellwood said: “I am delighted to visit Jordan for the first time as Minister for Middle East demonstrating the enduring strength of our relationship. At the beginning of 2014 the UK had already contributed £150 million to Jordan since the start of the crisis in Syria and by spring 2015 we will have given £220 million. We will continue to support Jordan as it faces a range of challenges. I commend the regional leadership that Jordan has shown in tackling the scourge of ISIL and their important role in hosting over 620,000 refugees from Syria.”
