Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - At least four Israelis and two Palestinians were killed on Tuesday in an attack on a Jerusalem synagogue, Al Arabia News Channel’s correspondent reported. Two of the attackers were among those killed.
The Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine claimed responsibility for the attack, in what will likely raise tensions between Palesetinians and Israeli.
An Israeli police spokesman said two suspected Palestinian men armed with axes and knives wounded at least three people at the synagogue before they were shot dead by officers.
"We are viewing this as a terrorist attack," police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld said.
A spokesman for Israel's ambulance service Magen David Adom told Army Radio medics were treating three people, one of whom was critically wounded. Media reports said more people at the scene were wounded.
Both Hamas and Islamic Jihad hailed the attack, reported AFP.
US Secretary of State John Kerry condemned the attack, describing it as an "act of pure terror and senseless brutality."
Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas denounced the deadly attack while at the same time calling for an end to Israeli "provocations" surrounding a contested holy site.
Also Tuesday, unidentified assailants opened fire on a Jewish settlement in the occupied West Bank. There were no reported casualties.
