Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - The Syrian Refugees Directorate has taken all precautionary measures to deal with emergencies and has ensured suitable conditions at the two refugee camps ahead of the winter season, a security source at the refugee agency assured on Sunday.
The Zaatari refugee camp near the northeastern city of Mafraq is one of the world's largest refugee cities housing more than 120,000 displaced Syrians while the newly-established Al Azraq camp holds nearly 15,000 people.
The source said that the directorate had, in collaboration with other concerned organizations, dredged canals and designated areas inside the camps as danger areas prone to flash floods and had also built ducts to drain rain water.
He added that additional tents had been kept ready with fully-equipped emergency response teams on standby for carrying out any evacuation in coordination with the electricity company. This was aimed at ensuring that the power grid continues to provide safe and undisrupted electricity supply to the camps.
The sources said the agency had been working with the concerned departments, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and other international humanitarian organizations to provide the camps with assistance and emergency services.
