Judeh: Jordan is pushing for Gaza ceasefire

Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Jordan on Monday condemned Israel's assault on the Gaza Strip and its excessive, unjustified and indiscriminate use of force against civilians and said it is pushing for an immediate halt to the aggression. Foreign minister Nasser Judeh told an emergency ministerial meeting at Arab League headquarters late Monday that the escalation in Gaza was meant to divert world attention from Israel's ongoing unilateral actions against occupied East Jerusalem and its holy sites.

"We in Jordan denounce this vicious and continuous aggression, the unjustified use of disproportionate force and the indiscriminate bombing that mostly targets innocent civilians, children, women and elderly Palestinians," the minister told his colleagues from the pan-Arab organisation.

Judeh said Jordan was working diligently through the personal efforts of His Majesty King Abdullah II with world leaders to stop the assault by all means and return to a ceasefire deal that ended an Israeli offensive on Gaza in November, 2012.

He said the Kingdom was also urging world powers to the necessary conditions for the resumption of serious and timelined Palestinian-Israeli peace talks that would lead to an independent and sovereign Palestinian state on June 4, 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital as stipulated by the two-state solution.
