Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Interior Minister Hussein Hazza Al-Majali met on Tuesday with United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) representative in Jordan, Andrew Harper, and discussed the latest developments related to the Syrian refugee crisis.

Talks during the meeting also dealt with ways to mitigate the effects of the crisis on the Kingdom, particularly in vital service and security sectors.

Majali highlighted the deep ties between Jordan and the UNHCR as the UN’s umbrella for refugees in the Kingdom, hailing its role in helping Jordan cope with the repercussions of the Syrian crisis.

He added that the crisis has put an enormous strain on Jordan's natural, economic, health and educational resources as well as its infrastructure and water and energy sectors, urging the international community to increase the amount of aid allocated to Jordan in this regard.

Harper praised the Jordanian stance toward the Syrian refugees despite its economic challenges, pointing to the importance of the international community playing its role in supporting Jordan as the country most affected by the crisis.
