Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - His Majesty King Abdullah II on Sunday met with Chairwoman of the US House of Representatives' Subcommittee on the Middle East and North Africa Ileana Ros-Lehtinen and her accompanying delegation.

At the meeting, which was held at Al Husseinieh Palace, and focused on Jordanian-US ties, the King said Jordan was keen to forge closer cooperation and partnership between the two countries in various fields.

His Majesty reviewed the latest developments in the Middle East, mainly the repercussions of the Syrian crisis on Jordan which is hosting more that 1.3 million Syrians on its territories, and the pressure they place on the Kingdom's infrastructure and services especially in the northern and central regions.

He urged the international community to increase its support to the Kingdom to enable it to continue providing humanitarian and relief services to the Syrian refugees.

The King also warned of the current crisis in Iraq and the threats it poses to Iraq and the region as a whole, reiterating Jordan's keenness regarding the unity and stability of Iraq and its people.

Any solution to the crisis in Iraq, he said, should be based on a comprehensive political solution with the participation of all components of the Iraqi society without any exception.

On the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, the King urged the international community to support the US- brokered talks to achieve peace between the two sides through addressing all final status issues and thus lead towards the establishment of an independent and viable Palestinian state on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.

Members of the delegation voiced their appreciation for His Majesty's efforts to achieve peace, security and stability in the region and solve problems facing the region.

The meeting was attended by the Royal Court chief and the King's Advisor and Rapporteur of the National Policies Council.
