Jordan plans to build 2 uranium extraction plants

Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Director General of the Jordanian uranium mining comoany Samer Al-Qahouq said Sunday his country plans to launch two plants for extracting uranium , NVO News reported.

“The total cost of the two plants, to be built in central Jordan, amounts to USD 140 million,” he told a press conference here.

“The first station will be an experimental one and the second will produce 300-400 tons of uranium a year in the first stage,” Al-Qahouq said.

He added that the project will be implemented in collaboration with a foreign strategic partner.
The Kingdom has uranium reserves estimated at 71,000 tons including 28,000 tons in the central region, according to a report presented to the Cabinet last week.
