Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - King Abdullah II on Sunday met a Japanese parliamentary delegation and said that Jordan is interested in further cementing a partnership with Japan in various domains, including parliamentary and legislative fields.

The King sent his greetings to Emperor Akihito and told the team that he is proud of the historic Jordanian-Japanese friendship, noting the two countries had established diplomatic relations 60 years ago.

The meeting also dealt with regional issues, where King Abdullah spoke about efforts to achieve peace between the Palestinians and Israel based upon the two-state solution and international legitimacy resolutions. He also stressed the international community's role in support Palestinians in setting up an independent state along the June, 4, 1967 borders.

On Syria, the King reviewed Jordan's position advocating a political solution that would end the suffering of the Syrian people, and also spoke about burdens imposed upon the Kingdom as it hosts the largest number of Syrian refugees. He said international support for the Kingdom, particularly local communities that accommodate the Syrians, is needed.

The Japanese parliamentarians said Tokyo was willing to bolster ties with Jordan in various fields and praised the King's efforts to bring about regional peace and stability. They also commended Jordan's model in reforms and development, despite challenges facing the Middle East.

The Japanese team also recalled Jordan's support of Japan in the aftermath of the Fukushima nuclear disaster.
