Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - The Ministry of Interior this evening confirmed that Jordanian ambassador Fawwaz Al-Eitan was still held by his kidnappers, after reports circulated again that he had been released.
“These are just rumours,” Interior Ministry spokesperson Rami Kaal told the Libya Herald. “Until this moment, he has not been released.”
Eitan was kidnapped ten days ago, on his way to work, by masked gunmen. His driver was shot in the legs during the attack.
Kaal said he was unable to comment on reports aired tonight on a Libyan TV channel that a Libyan prisoner held in Jordan had been brought back to Libya to secure Eitan’s release. This, he said, was a matter for the Justice Ministry.
Mohamed Dersi was given a life sentence in 2007 for planning to bomb a Jordanian airport and Eitan’s kidnappers have demanded his return.
No-one from the Justice Ministry was available to comment this evening.
