Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriate Affairs Nasser Judeh met on Thursday with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uruguay, Luis Almagro, to discuss bilateral ties as well as the latest developments in the region.
The two ministers emphasized the strong ties between the two countries as well as the need to continue coordination and consultations on issues of common interest.
They also discussed cooperation in the renewable energy field and ways for Jordan to benefit from Uruguay's experience in this regard as 50 percent of Uruguay's energy comes from renewable resources.
Judeh and Almargo agreed to increase trade exchanges and benefit from the investment opportunities available in the two countries.
Discussions also dealt with cooperation in the fields of tourism, education and culture.
On regional developments, the two ministers reviewed the crisis in Syria and the need to end bloodshed in the country.
Judeh reiterated Jordan's stance which calls for a political solution to the crisis that guarantees Syria's security and unity, pointing to the burden shouldered by Jordan as a result of hosting more than 600,000 Syrian refugees.
Discussions also covered the US-brokered Palestinian-Israeli peace negotiations as well as challenges facing them.
The Uruguayan minister praised Jordan's humanitarian role towards the Syrian refugees as well as the efforts of His Majesty King Abdullah II to achieve peace and stability in the Middle East.
During the meeting, the two sides also signed a memorandum of understanding on political consultations between the two countries' foreign ministries.
