21-04-2014 10:55 PM

Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Jordanian Foreign Ministry summoned Monday the Israeli Ambassador in Amman Daniel Nevo to protest against Israeli violations of Al-Aqsa Mosque complex, also known as Al-Haram Al-Sharif, and attacking of Muslim worshippers.

Ministry officials informed Nevo about their rejction to allowing of Jewish extremists to enter the complex, and that attacks against the Muslims must stop, a statement noted.

The Jordanian government, it added, held Israel, the occupying power, responsible for the safety and security of the Al-Aqsa Mosque and Muslim worshippers.

The officials also told Nevo that such violations and attacks were flagrant violations of international law, the 1994 peace treaty between Jordan and Israel, and "constituted an extreme insult to bilateral relations." Minister of State for Media Affairs and Communications Mohammad Al-Momani, for his part, said Jordan, in coordination with Palestine, will adopt necessary measures to safeguard Islamic and Christian sites in the holy city of Jerusalem and defend Muslim worshippers in Al-Aqsa Mosque.

Al-Momani, also government spokesperson, said Jordan and Palestine were considering practical measures that would ensure protection of Palestinians in Jerusalem, deter and prevent Israel from dividing Al-Aqsa Mosque, as well as stopping the Israeli soldiers' continued attacks against Palestinian worshippers.

"These steps will be taken with the support of the Arab League and the Organization of the Islamic Cooperation as well as a number of European Union countries," he said.
