Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Syrian refugees at the Zaatari camp consume four million litres of water every day, camp director Colonel Zaher Abu Shehab said.

In a statement to Petra on Sunday, Abu Shehab said that water is pumped from several nearby water wells and is transported to the camp with the help of special tanks .

"One of the gates in the eastern part of the camp was assigned for this purpose," he added.

He said that currently, the camp absorbs more than 100,000 Syrian refugees, but was still to reach its full capacity though the influx of these refugees has been on the increase for the last few months.

Zaatari camp is located 10 km east of Mafraq. It was first opened on July 28, 2012 to host Syrians fleeing their war-torn country that erupted in 2011.
