Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - The Israeli occupation forces arrested 11,034 Palestinian citizens, including 2,500 children under the age of 18, during the past three years, Director of the Department of Statistics at the Palestinian Ministry of Prisoners' Affairs, Abdul Nasser Farwaneh, said Tuesday.

Of the above mentioned cases, 4,800 prisoners are still languishing in Israeli jails, while a majority of detainees were arrested following the Al-aqsa Intifada (uprising) in September 2000, and were being held in 17 prisons and detention centers, a newly released report revealed.

The report noted that 474 prisoners are serving one or multiple life sentences, including detainee Abdullah Barghouthi who was sentenced to as many as 67 life terms and an additional 250 years behind bars.

Around 1,500 prisoners are afflicted with serious health conditions and are suffering from serious and chronic diseases.

Around 205 Palestinian prisoners have died during imprisonment since 1967 due to torture and medical negligence. The last detainee to die was Hassan Torabi, a victim of medical negligence who fought against cancer before succumbing to the disease in the absence of proper treatment, the report stated.
