Ammon News - Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriate Affairs Nasser Judeh met on Monday with US Deputy Secretary of State William Burns to discuss Jordanian-US ties as well as the latest developments in the region.
The two officials stressed the importance of the current peace negotiations between the Palestinians and Israelis, sponsored by the United States. They also highlighted the need for concerted efforts by all parties to achieve the required progress in peace negotiations.
Judeh reiterated Jordan’s stance which considers the establishment of an independent Palestinian state as per the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital, a top Jordanian national interest.
Talks also covered the crisis in Syria, the ongoing talks between the Syrian government and the opposition in Geneva, as well as the need to arrive at the aspired for political solution through the implementation of Geneva I resolutions.
Judeh also reviewed with Burns the major burden being shouldered by Jordan as a result of hosting 600,000 Syrian refugees and providing them with humanitarian services.
He also briefed the US official on Jordan's reform process led by His Majesty King Abdullah II.
Burns voiced support for Jordan's role to bring about peace and stability in the Middle East, noting that the US is keen to continue coordination and consultations on various regional issues.
