Ammon News - Jordan’s export of fruit and vegetables to Syria has increased to reach 700-800 tons per day, Minister of Agriculture Akef Al Zoubi said on Monday .
Al Zoubi said in a press statement that the ministry has exerted all efforts to maintain the traditional export markets, especially with its northern neighbour Syria, a fact that resulted in such an increase.
He added that around 75 percent of these exports comprise tomatoes, noting that the Jordanian market will be open to importing oranges from Syria.
The minister highlighted that despite the violence sweeping Syria, Jordan’s exports of vegetables and fruit to Syria reached 794,000 tons last year, compared to 800,000 tons in 2012, which indicated an increased demand for Jordanian agricultural products due to their high quality and good international reputation.
