Ammon News - (Petra) – Statistics released on Monday revealed that Israeli occupation authorities have arrested 3,874 Palestinian citizens since the beginning of the current year.
According to the director of the Department of Statistics at the Palestinian Ministry of Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs, Abdul-Nasser Farawneh, "the arrested amounted to an average of 323 per month, or nearly 11 cases per day."
Farawneh pointed out that 3,799 of the detainees (98%) were from the West Bank and Jerusalem, while 75 of the arrested were from Gaza.
The Palestinian official stressed that the arrests during 2013, as during the previous years, affected all segments of the Palestinian society, including the sick, the disabled, the elderly, children, women, political leaders, journalists and academics.
During the detention, all Palestinian prisoners were subjected to physical or psychological torture, moral abuse and humiliation in front of the public and family members, he added.
