Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - SAN DIEGO - Fifty years to the day after John F. Kennedy was assassinated, his brother's assassin was moved from a state prison in the Central Valley to a facility in San Diego.

Sirhan Sirhan was convicted for the assassination of U.S. Senator Robert F. Kennedy. On Friday, he was moved from Corcoran State Prison to the Richard J. Donovan Correction Facility in San Diego.

Sources confirmed to Team 10 the move happened despite the state corrections website still displaying the Corcoran location on Friday afternoon.

The source said case factors were the reason for the location switch, and that it was not uncommon to move an inmate.

Late Friday afternoon, Luis Patino of the state's Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) told 10News:

"As a routine matter of housing allotments, Sirhan Sirhan was moved from Corcoran State Prison to the RJ Donovan Correctional Facility in San Diego County today. The date of the move is simply an unfortunate coincidence. Any number of Inmates are moved from institution to institution on any given day as necessary."

The Donovan facility is a level-three prison. Level-four prisons house the most dangerous criminals.

Sirhan Sirhan assassinated RFK on June 5, 1968, as he campaigned for president in the kitchen of the Ambassador Hotel in Los Angeles. The assassination happened shortly after Kennedy spoke with supporters in the ballroom.

Sirhan Sirhan, a Palestinian-Jordanian immigrant, shot Kennedy along with several other people. Kennedy died a day later, while the others recovered.

Like his brother's assassination, there have been conspiracy theories about RFK's murder. Sirhan's lawyers once claimed he was framed.

Sirhan is serving a life sentence. He was sentenced to death in 1969, and the sentence was commuted to life in prison in 1972.
