Speed Test Championship round five ends

27-10-2013 11:01 AM

Ammon News - Jordan Times - Fifth round of the Speed Test Championship concluded on Friday with Ahmad Daham crowned champion at the Royal Automobile Club of Jordan racetrack.

Daham clocked 1m31.39s followed by Husam Salem with 1m32.53s and Mohammad Tayseer in the third place with 1m33.33s.

Rami Kaghdo settled for the fourth place after clocking 1m37.34s and Salem Taimeh came fifth with 1m37.94s.

Daham said the heated competition made the win sweeter. He added that the strong competition the championship saw among the best 10 drivers made it “great”.

“I felt a lot of pressure but I managed to register a good record and move to the top place. The competition was fierce especially with many professional drivers out there.”

Salem — who was leading in the first round — could not beat Daham’s record in this round and had to settle for the second place, with eyes focused on the last round to be held in Aqaba in December.

“I am still leading the standings and I feel more relaxed today, but still I want to believe that the last round in Aqaba is the most important one for me so hopefully in Aqaba it will be a fantastic finale,” Salem said.

Deputising for HRH Prince Feisal, chairman of the Executive Motor Sports Council, MP Amer Basheer handed trophies to winners in a special ceremony at the end of the event, organised by Jordan Motorsports.

Ehab Batee, the speed test director, said last week that Friday’s nervy test is “the closest challenges we had in this championship”.

A host of drivers including Salem Taimeh, Motaz Al Ali, Ehab Shurafa, Ala Musmar and Raja Hamwi joined the event this Friday.
