01-10-2013 01:00 PM

Ammon News - AMMAN (Petra) – Chinese Ambassador to Jordan Yue Xiaoyong said the important and successful visit of His Majesty King Abdullah II to China paved the way for a new phase in the distinguished ties between the two countries .

In a statement to Petra on the occasion of his country's national day, the ambassador stressed the importance of the Sino-Jordan summit, meetings of His Majesty in China as well as the signing of agreements between the two countries, mainly in the fields of energy, media, IT, trade, technology and economic cooperation fields.

These, he said, reflected the strong and historical ties between Jordan and China.

"His Majesty is highly respected and admired in China and his efforts to bring about security, peace and stability in the region, are supported by China," ambassador Xiaoyong added.

China, he said, will continue its support for the regional issues until the establishment of an independent Palestinian state as per the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.

The ambassador also highlighted the achievements of China since 1949, adding that the Chinese leadership was continuing the reform process in the country.

On the Syrian crisis, Xiaoyong said his country supports a political solution to this crisis, and voiced the hope that all parties will sit together to resolve the conflict in Syria.

He also said that China is against the use of chemical weapons as their use violates international laws.

The ambassador denied that Muslims in China are discriminated against, noting that China's 20 million Muslims enjoy respect and good treatment and have full rights, noting that the major concern is developing China and achieving the change aspired for.

On the occasion of China's national day, the ambassador yesterday held a reception at the Chinese Embassy in Amman that was attended by politicians, diplomats and media figures.
