King concludes US, China visits

Ammon News - AMMAN (Petra) – His Majesty King Abdullah II concluded a working visit to New York where he had led Jordan's delegation to meetings of the 68th Session of the UN General Assembly, delivered a key note address and met with heads of states and delegations taking part in the meetings as well as US officials and intellectual and political figures.

The King met with the UN Secretary of State, the Lebanese, Tunisian and Austrian presidents, the US vice-president, former US President Bill Clinton as well as the US and Russian foreign ministers.

Discussions during the meetings covered the situation in the Middle East, mainly the Syrian crisis, as well as efforts to achieve peace between the Palestinians and the Israelis on the basis of the two-state solution.

The King reiterated Jordan's stance which calls for a political solution to the Syrian crisis that ends the sufferings of the Syrian people.

He also pointed to the burden being shouldered by Jordan due to hosting 550,000 refugees, adding that this has increased the pressure on Jordan's infrastructure and services sectors.

Talks also covered efforts to bring closer the views of the Palestinians and Israelis to achieve peace based on the two-state solution.

The King said Jordan was continuing its support to the international efforts led by the United States to support the Palestinians and Israelis in achieving progress in peace negotiations.

His Majesty reached the US after a state visit to China during which he held talks with the Chinese president and senior officials on bilateral ties and means to further boost these.

He also attended the First Jordanian-Chinese Forum in the Chinese capital Beijing. The King also visited the city of Yinchuan and attended the opening of the China-Arab Expo.

During the visit, His Majesty toured Jordan's pavilion which provided an opportunity to the people to familiarise themselves with the Jordanian economic and trade products. He was briefed by businessmen and representatives of Jordanian companies on their role in promoting Jordanian products and encouraging foreign businessmen and companies to invest in Jordan.

In Shanghai, His Majesty visited the Jinshan Economic Development Zone and looked into the Chinese experience in the industrial estates and economic development zones.

During a stopover in Abu Dhabi on his way to China, King Abdullah met with His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces of the United Arab Emirates, and discussed with him Jordanian-UAE ties, regional developments and issues of common concern.
