King, Kerry discuss Mideast developments in New York

Ammon News - NEW YORK (Petra) His Majesty King Abdullah II started his meetings in New York ahead of his participation in the 68th session of the United Nations General Assembly along with a number of world leaders.

The King met Sunday with Secretary of State John Kerry and discussed the latest developments in the region especially with regards to the Syrian crisis and the peace efforts in the Middle East.

The King asserted Jordan's support for the exerted efforts to achieve a comprehensive solution to the Syrian crisis that puts an end to the suffering of the Syrian people, the current conflict and the chemical weapons dangers and maintains the unity of Syrian people and lands.

King Abdullah pointed that Jordan shoulders huge responsibility in hosting 550,000 Syrian refugees which is forming huge pressures on the kingdom's limited resources.

Secretary of State John Kerry , on his part, valued Jordan's efforts in easing the suffering of the Syrian people and expressed his country's support to such efforts.

Kerry informed the king on his efforts regarding the Palestinian-Israeli conflict within the frame of the current negotiations on the basis of the two-state solution which is the only way to end the conflict.

The meeting was attended by senior Jordanian officials.
