Ammon News - AMMAN (Petra) – Speaker of the Lower House of Parliament Saad Hayel Srour said the approach towards ushering in reforms adopted by His Majesty King Abdullah II is moving forward at a steady pace, adding that a third of the constitution was amended and many legislation were accomplished to achieve the change aspired for such as the setting up of a Constitutional Court and an Independent Elections Commission.
At a meeting with a NATO Parliamentary Assembly delegation on Monday, the Speaker said the reform process required continued development of laws regulating political and economic life in order to enhance public participation in decision making.
Srour reiterated Jordan's stance on the Syrian crisis which calls for arriving at a comprehensive political solution that ends the conflict and preserves Syria's unity.
He also spoke about the burden shouldered by the Kingdom due to its hosting of a large number of Syrian refugees and the pressure they exerted on Jordan's energy, water, health and educational sectors.
