Ammon News - AMMAN (Petra) – Some 2.357 million Jordanians will head to the polls tomorrow to elect their representatives in 100 municipalities across the Kingdom, except for the Greater Amman Municipality.
According to the voter lists, the number of voters for all municipalities stands at 2.375 million, including 1.179 million female voters.
A total of 3,040 candidates are competing for council seats, of which 708 will be running for mayor, including six women, and 2,332, including 482 women, for the council seats in the Kingdom’s 100 municipalities.
The Kingdom's municipalities are distributed in 384 constituencies that have 1,196 voting centers and a total of 7,950 ballot boxes, half of which are for electing mayors independently.
A total of 1,345,000 voters in the Greater Amman area will also head to the polls tomorrow to elect 22 representatives for the 22 districts of the Greater Amman Municipality (GAM ).
The GAM council comprises 42 members, a third of whom are elected directly in 22 districts, in addition to the six seats reserved for women.
The election committee allocated 101 election centres in addition to 980 voting boxes in the Greater Amman Municipality.
As for the number of candidates running for the polls in GAM, it stands at 152, including 19 females.
