Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Activists from the Islamist youth movement on Friday protested near the Hashemiya prison, calling for the release of five activists from the movement who have been detained on charges brought against them by the State Security Court.
Activists performed Friday midday prayer in front of the prison, calling for the release of Hisham al-Haisa, Bassem Rawabdeh, Thabit Assaf, Tareq Khader, and Mu'ayad Ghawadreh, who have been detained at the Hashemiya prison, in northeastern Jordan.
The protesters denounced the detention of the activists as "purely political," blasting the charges brought against the activists as a case of "arbitrary detention over political opinion."
A statement issued by activists of the Islamist youth movement and the"Popular Commission to Defend Detained 'Herak' Activists" held the security forces and the Ministry of Interior responsible for the health of the detainees, who have been on a hunger strike weeks.
The statement claimed that the detainees face harsh conditions in detention and are "ill-treated" by the prison administration and the "unconstitutional" military tribunal that has charged the civilians, the statement said in reference to the State Security Court.
