Iraq to free 8 Jordanian prisoners

Ammon News - * Presidential decree to free Jordanian prisoners in Iraq signed

AMMAN (Petra) Iraqi Vice President Khudair Khuzaie has signed a presidential decree freeing eight Jordanian prisoners from Iraqi jails, Jordanian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Sabah Rafei said on Friday.

Other prisoners will be released later, She added.

The decree, she said, would be referred to the Iraqi justice minister to proceed with the release procedures.

A Jordanian delegation, comprising officials from the ministries of foreign affairs, interior and justice had visited Baghdad last June and discussed the issue of Jordanian prisoners held in Iraqi jails.

During the visit, the delegation met with the Iraqi ministers of foreign affairs and justice as well as other officials to ensure that the Jordanian prisoners in Iraq are released or repatriated to Jordan to complete their sentences.
