Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - German Ambassador to Jordan Ralph Tarraf on Wednesday inaugurated the new Child and Family Protective Place for Syrian Refugees in Zarqa, a facility whose implementation has been strongly supported by the German Government in close cooperation with UNICEF.

On the occasion, the Amassador declared: “Children are the most vulnerable in a crisis like the Syrian civil war and need protection and a continuation of a normal life. They are the future of a hopefully more peaceful Syria.”

UNICEF Jordan’s Deputy Representative Michele Servadei attended today’s inauguration and thanked the German Government for their generous support.

“We applaud the commitment shown by the people and Government of Germany whose generosity continues to support vulnerable Syrian children whose lives have been torn apart by conflict. With Germany's support, over 120,000 refugees in camps have access to clean drinking water, more than 44,000 Syrian children have access to schooling, and an additional 68,000 have been reached by psychosocial services and recreational programs.”

Germany has been UNICEF Jordan's single largest donor supporting its emergency response reaching Syrian refugee children and their families with life-saving assistance in Za’atari camp and in host communities.

Germany already announced further measures: On August 2, 2013 the German Development Bank signed a contract with UNICEF granting another 5 million Euros to fund child protection programs through the establishment and operation of child friendly spaces and the provision of psycho-social care. It will also ensure that children remain in school without interruption.
