Japan FM visits Zaatri refugee camp

Ammon News - MAFRAQ (Petra) Japanese Foreign Minister Fumio Kishida, accompanied by UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) Antonio Guterres, on Friday visited the Zaatri Refugee Camp in Mafraq to check on conditions of the Syrian refugees.
Kishida listened to a briefing on health care, education, relief and social services provided to the refugees as well as burdens shouldered by Jordan due to hosting a large number of refugees. The Japanese official was briefed on efforts Jordan exerts to alleviate the suffering of the Syrian refugees.
Kishida stressed the need to put an end to the Syrian crisis, stressing that Japan will provide $120 million to help the Jordanian government deal with the Syrian crisis. Guterres, for his part, underlined the need to support Jordan to continue extending assistance to the refugees, calling on the international community to shoulder its responsibilities in this regard.
